Treasure vs. Clutter: Deciding What Goes and What Stays

As we near the end of the month, I am anticipating warmer days coming up. Warmer days mean different things for each of us: some may be looking ahead to planning their garden, maybe it’s being able to start using the grill and sit on the deck outside in the evening or for others long days of working outside.  I am one of those that will have longer days being outside working as I am a farmer and a rancher (which I enjoy).

With the longer days that just means another season is beginning (the season of planting and calving). I am truly blessed to have the occupation that I do because that just means I get a close-up of God’s wonderful creation (seeing the life cycles of the crops and the calves being born and growing). As we near the upcoming warmer days, I also feel the need to declutter. By decluttering, I mean going through things such as any clothes I may not wear that can go to someone else, kitchen gadgets I no longer use, or just throwing things away that are just plain worn out. 

We all view clutter differently but the following verses state very clearly where our treasure should be. 

 Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
