    Faith on Fire: Serving

As we continue to explore our Faith on Fire series, we want to take a look at serving. Serving is so broad and can be done in so many ways. I am by nature a server to and of many times to a point of stretching my rope so very thin. I listen, I donate, I serve, I sit on committees and share my talents. I know that God calls us to serve and serving brings me joy.  What does serving look like? 1 Peter 4:10 reads “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace…” The Bible clearly lets…

    Faith on Fire: Christian Fellowship

The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines fellowship as a “community of interest, activity, feeling, or experience.” My response to that definition is, “meh”. Biblically, Christian fellowship is about community with others who share our belief in Jesus Christ and the experiences that stem from that belief. But, that definition does little to express the depth of the biblical sense of Christian fellowship.   1 John 1:3 states, “that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ” (ESV). Our ability to be in fellowship with other Christians…

    Faith on Fire: Praise

“Praise Him in the morning, praise Him in the noontime, praise Him, praise Him.” Just as the song says we should at times praise God. After all, he was the one who created us and has blessed us with so many wonderful things.  Just as we as humans like praise, so does God.  When someone says or does something nice for us and lets us know it gives us a boost. A positive boost can give us great energy and momentum to get through our days.  Praising God can be done in a variety of ways.  Just to name a few: going to church, spending fellowship with fellow Christians, singing…

    Faith on Fire: Prayer

Dear God,              I would like to take the time to thank you for another day you have blessed us with. I pray that we will get everything done that you have set out for us to do. I also pray that you would continue to help me to keep my faith on fire and let it shine. I praise you that even though things may not happen in my timing you provide what we need in your timing. In your loving name, we pray,           Amen Prayer can be long or short, simple or eloquent, but no matter how we pray God hears us. We do indeed need to engage in…

    Faith on Fire: Christian Meditation

I want to be clear that this post is about Christian meditation and not meditation in general, as they are distinctly different things. At one point in time, I did not realize there was a difference and that the difference is profound. New age or Eastern ideas of meditation support the idea of emptying one’s mind, allowing whatever thoughts that surface to just float by, becoming non-reactive. Meditation from this perspective emphasizes personal ability and power to control our circumstances and life. On the other hand, Christian meditation focuses on filling or focusing our minds on God and His Truth. Christian meditation provides a way for the believer to engage…
