Waiting in Expectation: The Advent of Our Lord

We are just a little over two weeks away from Christmas. Are you waiting in expectation? The commercialization of the holiday season has caused so many of us to skip the Advent season and crash into Christmas exhausted from planning, preparing, and attending events. I know I am guilty of that most years. However, probably for the first time in years, I have been able to set aside the anxiety of preparation and have been able to sit in quiet expectation. How? I’m intentionally taking moments to remember who He is, why He came, and what He has done.

Expectation is a “strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the future”. The Christian season of Advent is a season of anticipating the arrival of Christ. As followers of Christ, we know that some 2000 years ago Christ did arrive in a manger in a little town called Bethlehem. Now, each year, we get to remember and walk through that expectation–at least we do if we choose to remember and make it a priority.

Over the next few weeks, we will review the Advent wreath and what each candle means: hope, love, joy, and peace. We hope that you will read each post and take a moment to pause and reflect on the amazing work of the Holy Spirit in your life. The enduring, forever fulfillment of the promises of God. Stay tuned!
