Let Memories Just Happen

As we navigate life, we are continually making memories. Some are ones we would love to recreate. Others we wish we could forget. For the ones that we want to recreate, do we stop to think about what made them so special? Often we lose what made that special over time. We forget the details, but we remember the awesomeness that we experienced.

We also fret and stress when things go wrong. We hyperfocus on the time that had an epic fail in public or when we made a fool of ourselves at work. We choose to make family holidays a stressful time because a member has lost their way from God and is making poor choices and we try to fix it.

Philippians 4:8 reads “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

God instructs us what to focus on and think about…all of those things are already there and we don’t need to create them. Does it really matter what memory we are making or are trying to create? Not really as God already has it already defined for us. Every memory, every fear, every joy, every event is in his hands.

Memories give us the experience and expertise that make us who we are. If not for memories, we would be a blank slate. However, God has created us all as we are his masterpieces so let the memories that he wants us to have just come and embrace them.
