Roll the Dice…Summer Trip Adventures

It’s post-Fourth of July, and you know what that means…the rest of summer is going to slip through our fingers unless we choose to savor it. If you are like me, I’m already anticipating fall’s busyness and missing my husband as he works long hours running his concrete business. Long, relaxing summer trips are not in the realm of possibilities for us. However, I’ve been thinking about ways that we can get away, even if just for a Sunday afternoon or a quick weekend trip.

I really wish my memory was better so I could give credit where credit is due on this post. The idea for this came from a young, soon-to-be mother I met at a conference about five years ago. Unfortunately, I don’t remember her name. But, I will never forget this great idea!

She and her husband set aside one weekend per month for a one or two-day trip. The week before their weekend, they would get out the die from their Scattegories game and roll it. Whatever letter the die landed on determined the first letter of the name of the town they would go see. They would get on Google maps and chart a course toward the town. Depending on the amenities, they would plan to eat at their destination or pack a picnic. Along the way, they would stop and see attractions, take nature photos, or just walk around a bit to stretch their legs. She had the most amazing stories about things they discovered, the food they ate, and the memories they made.

Honestly, I’m not sure why I haven’t asked my husband to do this sooner. I know we don’t have a Scattegories die, but that seems a simple fix. What do you think? Are you willing to roll the dice? I would love to hear about your adventures or see pictures of your discoveries!
