This time of year we are surrounded by many Christmas carols that have joy in the titles, verses, and more. One of my favorites is Joy to the World. This heartwarming song truly brings a smile to your face and heart. There is joy here on earth and in heaven that the Lord has come.
Matthew 2:10-11 reads “When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.”
During Advent season it is such a great time to exude joy. Be joyful in day-to-day activities. Be joyful in your holiday celebrating. Be joyful in doing something new to focus on this holiday season. Does your joy flow to the real meaning of the season? Does your joy come from knowing that we have an eternal home waiting for us?
I encourage us all to be more like the wise men…drop to our knees in joy and offer gifts. God provides us with so many reasons to be joyful. Our treasures here on earth are only temporary. We can give of our time and talents like the wise man. As we approach the birth of Jesus, let our joy shine in new ways this year.
