Is my name Peter?

Yes, it is a strange question that starts this article as one, I am a woman, and two, I am not having a memory lapse problem at the moment. My question arises out of my recently read devotionals. Due to the time of year and upcoming Easter holiday, many of the devotions I have read recently are diving into the days and time before Jesus’ crucifixion.

We read how Peter denied Jesus three times. Our lives are so full and busy that it is ever so easy to deny what Jesus is calling us to do or how he instructs us to live our lives….that yes, I feel like I deny him myself. It is so easy to not put him at the forefront of our conversations.

Do I deny him, when I say yes to one more thing? Do I deny him when I fail to take care of myself and my family first? Do I deny him, when my devotions are put to the side to take a call or something of the sort? Yes, but God is forgiving.

2 Timothy 2:12 reads “if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;”….and after reading that verse I can breathe a sigh of relief. Why? Simple. It reminds me that I am not faithless, I am just a sinner and ask for forgiveness each and every day.

I will not walk every day of my life without fault. I am however reassured that by having faith, I will reign with him forever. How awesome is that? So I guess, the excitement of the name Peter is short-lived. I will continue to be Jessica, a sinner full of faith walking with the Lord which is truly amazing but not without trials!
