Blessed for the Snow

I wake up to another day for a chance of snow, flurries, and of course where we live more wind. Don’t forget the many days of sub-zero temperatures that we have had to top it off. It has been a long month since the holidays with what seems like snow and wind each day. And yet, I feel blessed.

No, I have not lost my marbles…yet! I am feeling blessed that God has given me the opportunity to slow down. Yes, life remains busy with work, school, and everything else. However when the snow is falling and the wind is blowing it truly limits travel here. It is a great reason to call and cancel this event or that.

I have found myself catching up on small projects, cleaning out, and finding time to actually watch a movie or dust off a book that I have been longing to read. Our family has had time for more games and conversation which is something that we often put on our to-do list for last.

I often forget that we need more time to care for ourselves. In 1 Corinthians 3:16, we read “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” Why do we always wait for the snow to fall to slow down and care for ourselves? We push and push throughout the year and wait for Mother Nature or God to put a halt to our actions.

God instructs us to always take care of ourselves as we are his temple. Yet, we never put that on the top of our to-do list. We are still fresh in the new year, and I know I have many snow days ahead of me to see spring this year. However, I look to make a plan in which I have “snow days” all year long. I hope you do too!
