September Devotional: Work in Progress

It is amazing to me that we are already in September…not sure where this year went already. Before we know it we will be opening holiday gifts as time does fly.

Our lives are similar to the calendar year in that they go quickly. One day we are young and full of energy and the next we are facing the struggles of old age. However, the one thing that remains constant is that we are a work in progress. In Jeremiah 29:11 we read “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

One thing that remains constant through whatever age we are or whatever the day on the calendar is, is that we are a continual work in progress. God knew us before we were born and already designed his plan for each of us. His plan comes with joys, sorrows, struggles, and more. However, each thing that we experience in life makes us who we are and makes our relationship with God grow.

This month we celebrate Labor Day, the holiday to recognize the American workers. My family is taking a quick three-day mini-vacation over the holiday for our son’s birthday. One event recognizes the immense strides that our country has taken to become the developed country we are and the other offers a reprieve from the busy jobs that my husband and I have.

However, the one thing we often forget is how God is always working. He never takes a break! Yes, he rested on the sabbath but he truly holds up the universe continually. He is there so that we can continue to go to him in times of joy and times of struggle. He is always there so we can work through everything. What a wonderful gift that is and one that we often forget to remember or step back to recognize.

I encourage you to step back and reflect on yourself as a work in progress and where you are in your walk with the Lord.
