How Do You Know When You Have Reached Your Goal?

As we head into starting a new school year, I am reminded of the sometimes endless charts we try to run our lives with. The book log, the chore chart, the goal chart, and soon we will have the weight loss chart after the holidays. Some charts require adding a sticker for each item. Others we see the results of new clothes or a trip to buy new books.

Each of these provides a measure of accomplishment and a milestone that we can share with others. However, do we know how to measure successes biblically? We go through many actions and activities without the thought of who or what we are doing them for. Are you doing all things with and for your children to bring them up in the ways of God? Are you doing all things for the glory of God?

Proverbs 16:3 says “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established” and 1 Corinthians 15:58 states “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

Therefore how do you measure your success and progress biblically? Easy…commit all you do to the Lord, be steadfast and always abound in the Lord and he will do the rest. Ultimately our success is in joining him in our heavenly home not whether we get another award, sticker or compliment. Yes, those things are always wonderful to receive but letting our lives become focused on the next small milestone, in the end, will not provide the fruitfulness we desire.
