Finding Your Entrepreneurial Spirit

As I have shifted gears for the third time today from the various business ventures I am part of, I realized I am truly inspired by owning and controlling my own destiny in regards to how I spend my days and make my livelihood.

I have owned and operated some form of business for more than 20 years. My longest business venture is a construction company with my spouse. In addition, I have stopped and started a meal planning service and handmade linen business. Currently, I am an aspiring real estate agent and contributor to this amazing blog!

Growing up I had the white picket fence vision…get married, three kids and a nice 8 to 5 job in an office somewhere. However I soon found that that wasn’t me. I slowly, piece by piece, have uncovered the entrepreneurial spirit I didn’t know I had, one risk at a time.

Over the years, I have learned to take the time to be a better planner for my new business. When starting our construction business, we truly jumped off the cliff and prayed that God would guide us through…and he has! My meal planning and handmade linen businesses were planned for the most part. However I missed the part that doing trade shows in person to sell linens was totally not me and that my meal planning concept came a little too late with other big competitors and I didn’t have a niche to get past them.

Today as I continue in my new ventures, I ask daily if I have found my life long business…or if I will again want to spread my wings with something new.

My greatest advice:

  1. Don’t be afraid and try, try again.
  2. Read, plan and visit with others…that information is invaluable.
  3. Start, fail, and start again. God gives us the guidance to take us where we need to go. Sometimes that path includes the failures so that we know how to do it differently the next time.

I certainly don’t have it all right, but love the path I am on! Comment below…we would love to hear your story and how you found your entrepreneurial experience.
